A House Democrat Just Proposed The “Stable Genius Act” To Make Medical Exams For Presidential Candidates A Requirement

Days ago, Trump claimed to be a “stable genius” amid increasing talk that he’s too erratic and mentally unfit to be president of the United States.

On Tuesday, Democratic Rep. Brendan Boyle trolled him by introducing the Standardizing Testing and Accountability Before Large Elections Giving Electors Necessary Information for Unobstructed Selection Act — or the “Stable Genius” Act, if you take the first letter of each word.

“President Trump’s reckless, erratic behavior has exposed a critical flaw in our existing election process,” Boyle said in a statement. “Before voting for the highest office in the land, Americans have a right to know whether an individual has the physical and mental fitness to serve as President of the United States. While it is necessary to take the current President’s concerning behavior seriously and I support legislation to address these ongoing concerns, I believe we must also be proactive and do all we can to ensure a situation like this does not arise again.”

Boyle added that his bill “provides a much needed safeguard to ensure that future presidential candidates meet the basic standards of a proper, uniform medical examination, and that this information is available to the American public before voting for the Office of the Presidency.”

Trump’s mental stability has been a source of concern for many since even before he took office, not just among voters but also among legislators in Washington. Last February, former Minnesota Sen. Al Franken said he’d heard concerns about the president’s mental health from “a few” Republican officials. And it wasn’t limited to just the GOP.

“In the way all of us have this suspicion,” Franken said. “He lies a lot.”

The publication of Fire and Fury, the explosive tell-all by journalist Michael Wolff on Trump’s first year in the White House, has made Trump’s mental health a national talking point this week. In the book, Wolff said top aides who had to interact with Trump were seriously concerned about his mental instability.
