Roughly 1.5 million Democrats had voted by Wednesday morning, a dramatic increase from the one million who voted in the previous primary. Whereas Democrats made up less than 30% of the overall vote in 2014, they made up an estimated 40% on Tuesday.
Early voting numbers showed blue voters outnumbering their red counterparts in the days leading up to the election, but ultimately Republicans were still the majority.
Still, the increasing enthusiasm among Democrats, especially in a typically conservative state like Texas, is a great sign as the midterm elections inch closer. In order to take back Congress, the left is going to have to show up with huge numbers to the polls, and early signs like the surge in turnout Texas demonstrated on Tuesday is what needs to happen all over the country.
