Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, said, “Whether or not the Trump administration wants to call this a ‘policy,’ it certainly is engaged in a widespread practice of tearing children away from their parents. A national class-action lawsuit is appropriate because this is a national practice.”
The Trump tactic of separating parents and children is designed and intended to scare immigrants. There is no other reason to adopt such a policy. The Republican Party claims that it is the party of families, but their president is intentionally splitting up families just to terrify immigrants.
The policy is beyond cruel. It strikes at the fabric of the countries. Families, no matter where they came from, are the backbone of American values. The forcible splitting of families is a tool for causing chaos in the country.
What Trump is doing goes beyond the bounds of legality. It is morally wrong, and the ACLU is suing to make it stop.
