Trump nearly averaged a lie every three minutes during one Friday morning hour, and MSNBC’s Katy Tur debunked four of the biggest ones.

Tur could have spent her entire show and then some debunking Trump’s lies if she took on all of them, but here were a two of the larger falsehoods:
Trump: I feel badly for General Flynn. He lost his house. He’s lost his life. And some people say he lied and some people say he didn’t lie. I mean really it turned out maybe he didn’t lie.
Tur: Some people say he lied. The president said he lied. He tweeted that he fired Flynn because he lied. He lied to the vice president and Flynn himself pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.
Trump: A Democrat bill. That’s Democratic law doing that. I hate the children being taken away. The Democrats have to change that law. The Democrats forced that law upon our nation. I hate it.
Tur: But there is no law that says families have to be separated at the border.
Trump: The Democrats gave us the laws.
Tur: It is not democratic law. It is a policy put in place by the current administration. It was introduced in a speech by President Trump’s own attorney general. The Democrats are the minority party. Republicans — Republicans — control the House, the Senate and the White House.
It would be funny if these lies weren’t so destructive to the country. Trump is inventing a new reality for himself where Democrats are responsible for all of his horrible and cruel actions, and the Russia scandal never happened. Paul Manafort was barely involved in the Trump campaign, and Mike Flynn is innocent of the lies that Trump fired him for telling.
The ideal would be that when Trump speaks and says something false, the airwaves should be filled with journalists and reporters making sure that the American people have the truth. Trump’s lies will only work beyond his cult if he is given an unchecked platform to tell them.
Trump’s inability to go five minutes without telling a lie is why he can’t do an interview with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Trump will lie. He will perjure himself, and he will face a world of problems.
Challenging Trump’s endless lies is exhausting, but it is what journalists must to do keep the American people informed and to make sure that the free press remains free.
