The former ABC News staffers wrote, “Trump’s condoning of political violence is part of a sustained pattern of attack on a free press, which includes labeling any reportage he doesn’t like as “fake news” and barring reporters and news organizations whom he wishes to punish from press briefings and events.”
Trump and Republicans have tried to deny responsibility for what is happening in the country, but it isn’t a coincidence that a man tried to bomb the one cable news network that Trump consistently singles out for criticism and has labeled “fake.”
Donald Trump has created this culture of violence against the free press, and in a larger context, Trump has sent the signal to his supporters that is acceptable to violence against people who disagree with you politically.
Trump incited this violence, and the Republican followed his lead and adopted the rhetoric of violence. Republicans own this. The current MAGA bomber is destroying the single actor one bad apple excuse that Republicans often use to dismiss right-wing violence.
Journalists have had enough, and they are putting the blame squarely on the shoulders of Trump.
