Scott Walker Is Behind The Moves To Strip Power From Incoming Wisconsin Democratic Governor

Defeated Gov. Scott Walker is behind the series of measures that Republicans are trying to pass in Wisconsin that would weaken the power of incoming Democratic Gov. Tony Evers.

The AP reported:
Other measures would weaken the attorney general’s office by allowing Republican legislative leaders to intervene in cases and hire their own attorneys. A legislative committee, rather than the attorney general, would have to sign off on withdrawing from federal lawsuits.

That would stop Evers and incoming Democratic Attorney General Josh Kaul from fulfilling their campaign promises to withdraw Wisconsin from a multi-state lawsuit seeking repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald downplayed concerns about the lame-duck session, saying, “I don’t think it’s outrageous at all.”

Fitzgerald said Walker and his chief of staff were deeply involved in crafting the measures.

Michigan Republicans are trying to take similar steps before that state’s Democratic governor is sworn in.

Republicans Are Trying To Invalidate An Election In Wisconsin

Republicans lost in Wisconsin, so they are using the remaining power that they have left to undermine the will of the people. Wisconsin is a state with a strong Democratic history that has been overtaken by a cabal of far-right Republicans. At the center of the cabal is Scott Walker, who is the biggest sore loser in American politics.

The bills and measures that Republicans are trying to pass aren’t just about weakening Evers. The legislation is an effort to lay the groundwork for the return of Walker. Scott Walker still wants to president, and his path to the White House runs through the governor’s mansion in Madison.

Republicans are going to get sued for their efforts in Wisconsin, but this is about keeping power today and worrying about the consequences tomorrow.

Disrespect for democracy has become a character trait of the Republican Party.

Instead of protecting democratic institutions during the peaceful transfer of power, Wisconsin Republicans are trying to destroy them.

The people are in the streets, and the fight has just begun to stop Scott Walker from committing one last crime against democracy before he leaves office.
