Trump Throws A Tantrum As Just 25% Of Americans Support His Childish Border Wall Shutdown

Donald Trump‘s childish shutdown over border wall funding appears to have backfired miserably, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The survey found that just 25 percent of the country believes it was a good idea to shut down the federal government over the president’s fantasy to build a barrier on the southern border.

Overall, a combined total of 54 percent of the country blames Trump (47 percent) and congressional Republicans (7 percent) for the shutdown. Just 33 percent think Democratic lawmakers are responsible.

To make matters worse for the president, only 35 percent of those surveyed believe that taxpayer dollars should be included in the budget to fund his border wall.

None of this should be a surprise to the president of the United States given that he repeatedly promised that Mexico – not the American taxpayer – would be on the hook for the construction of his wall on the southern border.

Trump throws another tantrum

It’s no surprise that after the polling data was released, Trump took to Twitter to whine about his woes.

In a post, the manchild-in-chief referred to himself in the third person and said, “This is only about the Dems not letting Donald Trump & the Republicans have a win.”

Trump is living in another world

Donald Trump is so insulated in his own Fox News bubble that he wasn’t able to see the magnitude of the mistake he was making by shutting down the government over his childish anti-immigrant fantasy.

While his pledge to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it was a big applause line at his MAGA mob rallies during the campaign, the broader American public doesn’t support his wall as a policy. They never have.

It’s bad enough to try to ram a policy proposal through Congress that the American people don’t want; it’s even worse to shut down the federal government over it.

As a result, hundreds of thousands of workers will be hurt at a time when they are trying to enjoy the holidays with their families.

According to The New York Times, “More than 420,000 people will have to work without pay and 380,000 will be furloughed, unable to return to work or receive pay until their departments are funded.”

Donald Trump can lash out on Twitter all he wants, but the American people recognize that it is he who is responsible for the third government shutdown of 2018.
