House Intelligence Committee chairman, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) compared Trump‘s tactics to organized crime while announcing that Michael Cohen will testify on February 8.

Rep. Schiff said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:

I want to thank Michael Cohen for agreeing to appear voluntarily before the Committee for closed testimony on February 8, 2019.

Mr. Cohen has relayed to the Committee his legitimate concerns for his own safety as well as that of his family, which have been fueled by improper comments made by the President and his lawyer. As I’ve previously stated with my colleagues, Chairmen Elijah Cummings and Jerrold Nadler, efforts to intimidate witnesses, scare their family members, or prevent them from testifying before Congress are tactics we expect from organized crime, not the White House. These attacks on Mr. Cohen’s family must stop. Federal law prohibits efforts to discourage, intimidate, or otherwise pressure a witness not to provide testimony to Congress.

We will continue to work with Mr. Cohen and law enforcement in order to protect Mr. Cohen and his family.

Adam Schiff Compared Trump to Organized Crime

Rep. Schiff provided a great deal of insight about how he and his fellow committee chairmen are approaching investigating Trump by comparing his tactics to those found in organized crime. The Democrats understand that they aren’t investigating a president. They are investigating a man who behaves like a crime boss and has surrounded himself with various criminal and corrupt figures.

Trump is worried about Michael Cohen‘s public testimony because Cohen has the ability to do immense public damage to the president. What should worry Trump, even more, is that Democrats are on to him. Trump is acting like some kind of small-time mob boss, so that is how Democrats are going to treat him. Robert Mueller has run the Russia investigation like a RICO probe, and House Democrats are coming after the administration like the two-bit crime family that they are.
