Trump said, “It’s not an interference, they have information — I think I’d take it. If I thought there was something wrong, I’d go maybe to the FBI — if I thought there was something wrong. But when somebody comes up with oppo research, right, they come up with oppo research, ‘oh let’s call the FBI.’ The FBI doesn’t have enough agents to take care of it. When you go and talk, honestly, to congressman, they all do it, they always have, and that’s the way it is. It’s called oppo research.”

Trump has rationalized jeopardizing national security and destroying democracy as “oppo research.” Foreign governments can’t conduct oppo research. Opposition research is by definition something that is done by political opponents in an election. Trump’s answer is an admission that he is the candidate of Russia, Saudi Arabia, North Korea or any other foreign government that wants to interfere on his behalf.
Donald Trump is going to cheat in 2020, but before he ever gets to election day, he may need to be impeached. His attitude is imperiling democracy and welcoming foreign election interference.
What Trump called opposition research is actually an impeachable offense.
