Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) confronted Trump in August by phone after he heard about the president pulling a quid pro quo shakedown on Ukraine.

According to The Wall Street Journal:
In an interview, Sen. Ron Johnson (R., Wis.) said he learned of a potential quid pro quo from the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, who told him that aid to Ukraine was tied to the desire by Mr. Trump and his allies to have Kyiv undertake investigations that the president has sought.

Mr. Johnson raised the issue with Mr. Trump in a phone call on Aug. 31, shortly before the senator was due to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In the call, Mr. Trump flatly rejected the notion that he directed aides to make military aid to Ukraine contingent on a new investigation by Kyiv, Mr. Johnson said.

Trump lied to Sen. Johnson and denied that he was trying to extort Ukraine into investigating Joe Biden.

The president already imploded on Twitter and admitted that he actively solicited help from foreign governments in the 2020 election, but believed that it was all legal because he has the power to do so. Trump followed this admission by telling reporters on the White House lawn that he would have to get back to them when they asked if anyone who wasn’t a rival of his was under investigation for “corruption.”

The stories all follow a similar tone and all lead to one conclusion.

There has not been one single new development in this scandal that has been good for Trump. Democrats already had enough to impeach Trump. Whether Republicans want to see it or not, an ironclad case is being constructed for his conviction and removal from office.
