Trump Is Telling People He Must Run for President To Protect Himself From 1/6 Prosecution

The very same man who advised other candidates to simply “declare victory” in an election with the vote too close to call (Mehmet Oz) because it makes “it easier to win,” is telling advisers around him that he will likely make a very early announcement that he’s running for president again in 2024 to make it harder for prosecutors to charge him over his role in the January 6th conspiracy. According to Rolling  Stone, Trump plans to protect himself by making any criminal prosecution as politically dangerous as possible and, ideally, win the presidency, becoming effectively “untouchable.”

When Donald Trump formally declares his 2024 candidacy, he won’t just be running for another term in the White House. He’ll be running away from legal troubles, possible criminal charges, and even the specter of prison time. In recent months, Trump has made clear to associates that the legal protections of occupying the Oval Office are front-of-mind for him, four people with knowledge of the situation tell Rolling Stone.

Trump has “spoken about how when you are the president of the United States, it is tough for politically motivated prosecutors to ‘get to you,” says one of the sources, who has discussed the issue with Trump this summer. “He says when [not if] he is president again, a new Republican administration will put a stop to the [Justice Department] investigation that he views as the Biden administration working to hit him with criminal charges — or even put him and his people in prison.”

We have all become so numb to Trump that the cynicism and criminal predisposition on display above should knock us over while making headlines, and yet it is not only “expected,” people have trouble imagining Trump behaving any other way.

Of course, the usual victim complex continues unabated in Trump’s singularly-focused mind, “the Biden Administration is out to get him,” while the Committee’s evidence becomes clearer and more compelling. Additionally, once again, we’re reminded that Trump views the presidency as quite literally above the law, more akin to a king or a fascist leader, like MBS, someone who puts his enemies in prison because the presidency is about personal relationships and power, not the Constitution and law.

Many doubted that Trump would ever run for president again. He never particularly liked doing the job, and he still enjoys many of the same trappings in retirement (adoring crowds). But the near complete immunity from prosecution might literally compel him to announce his candidacy, making any charges look political, and then dearly hope to win so he can prosecute some Democrats and get that revenge he loves almost as much as himself.

Last, one has to be apolitical to a fault to not have seen this coming. The time to investigate and possibly charge Trump was 60 to 120 days after January 20th, 2021. The entirety of the FBI was available to Merrick Garland, as well as judicial warrants for phone and computer records. Garland has been so seemingly fearful of prosecuting a man who tried to steal the country that he opened an invaluable window of opportunity for Trump to announce and then scream that any arrest made or charge filed is done solely because “They know they cannot beat me.” It isn’t true, and it should be laughable given the evidence found by the committee, but everyone knows that it both matters and is powerful.

Trump knows it matters, and that’s why he will announce his new run in the very near future.
