"No taxpayers should not have to pay for the ballroom Where is the 400 millions from his private donation?"

That sounds like normalisation of the ballroom - I think every Democratic candidate vying for the presidency in 2028 should pledge to remove it entirely and re-build the East Wing as it was (with sensible improvements). Obliterate the Trump King Madness altogether.

I am all in favor of independent boards establishing voting districts. Go Dems.

Virtually all genuine democracies around the world (including here in Australia) have independent and non-partisan electoral commissions that draw boundaries - politicians have absolutely no say in that process. It's not hard, not radical.

it's hard when you have fascists taking over and they don't want anything to be fair because then they might actually have to come up with policies instead of just victimhood and racism

The lack of a moral framework and a sense of propriety is what is most astonishing and unpleasant about observing American politics - it looks like a brutal cross between the Wild West and the Mafia. Other countries can run their politics and still be civilised - why can't the US?

Once again my hat is off to Congressman Rankin for his relentless voice for the rights of citizens. And SHAME on those activist racists, the Supremes, who are in lockstep with Project 2025’s playbook.

Semolina Pilchard's avatar

Please don’t call them the Supremes. There’s only one Supremes. The Motown Supremes.

Stop! In the name of love.

Punkette's avatar

Right on, sister! At this point, we need to call those 6 racists the Extremes.

I call it the John Roberts corrupt court.

While I can wholeheartedly agree with Raskin's assessment and recommendation, that has to come after. RIGHT NOW we have to fight fire with fire and resdistrict every election at all levels to counteract what the republicans will do. the court has created a free for all and there is nothing to do now but to figth to win for the midterms... THEN more rational responses can prevail. to do otherwise will allow every election and the country to be stolen away by republicans

Punkette's avatar

Exactly, Ronald. Our primary election season is heating up. We need to ROCK THE VOTE in the primaries as we prepare for the midterms! Here’s a useful list of upcoming primary races, by state: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2026-primary-elections/calendar

The SCOTUS 6 have destroyed women's rights to control their own bodies and now has raised the Confederate battle flag to put Black people back in "their place". It took 174 years to get some semblance of fair voting rights for Black people. In 61 years they have erased all the blood sweat and tears that it took to get that semblance of voting rights! Along with those things, they are working hard to destroy Due Process, the rule of law and the separation of church and government as they dream of their White Christian Theocracy.

It should be done by independent boards. Politicians need to keep their hands out of our elections. Let the people choose. Also let’s not forget that there is no evidence that the Latino vote is based on party.

GOTV is CRITICAL in November - and given majorities in House and Senate, SCOTUS must be reformed: Expand and pack, set retirement age, implement enforceable ethical rules, and then undo ALL rulings that destroyed voting rights. Next, end Citizens United and reverse the money = speech decision.

The whole systemof gerrymandering I believ, is unik in democratic states all over the world. Any democratic country should of course have systemthat makes is easier for voters to get to the ballotbox to deliever their vote. I should be a swift action to vote, not travel aroind half ofthe state to deliver your vote.

Jcarlet's avatar

Good future plan. But, for now ---- CRY HAVOC, LET LOOSE THE DOGS OF WAR.

BB1961's avatar

Agree — ban gerrymandering NOW!

SlowitDown's avatar

Here's an idea: let's open up the number of viable political parties from the current 2 to 6 or 7. This would allow for the disbandment of the 2 parties to reform, bringing in some of the Independents and totally realign the political map.

If you vote for anyone who isn't a Democrat now, you condemn us to Project 2025 for a generation or longer, especially with SCOTUS throwing the Civil Rights Voting Acts out the window. Rs are going to destroy every D district from now on.

At my age, I don't have a generation.

Life On A Pale Blue Dot 🔵's avatar

That might work if we had a Parliamentary form of government. It won't work with our system and will only fragment the opposition to authoritarianism.

I Agree with you!❤️

Love “the Extremes”.
