Control what you can when and wherever you can. Yield nothing. They will concede nothing except to Musk and Trump. Resist now.

It’s past time for Dems to start standing up and saying NO to saving Republicans from themselves! I want to see Dems listening to us, the people who elected them, and stop trying to play nice with people who have no rules for the game. Do what you can do until we can take back the whole chamber. Also: I LOVE Hakeem Jeffries!

Republican failure is good for America.

I think it would be great if the dems unite to resist Trump and his dangerous agenda; but I'll believe when I see it. I'm already hearing some "moderate" dems (Angie Craig and Jared Golden) mouthing off about how if President Biden ran the dems would have been wiped out. They can't respect our President on his way out of office. SHAMEFUL!!!!

Dems should have taken this stance during the last Speaker election.

Give no help, no cover, not one whiff you’ll get little for it and it certainly will not benefit you. It’s all on them now

Good for them. I agree completely. We need Hakeem.

Watching the count now: it's tied at 215, with 3 others. Johnson's already lost.

Update 217 for Johnson, but he still "lost".

Make it 216, not 217.

Yay, Democrats!!!! Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker! Get that Trump-tool Johnson out of there!!!!

I'm tuning up my tiny violin to play "My Heart Cries for You" for all my Republican friends

Johnson was re-elected Speaker after the first round of votes, after the three original “no” votes and six potential holdouts flipped last minute. So, not a humiliation for Trump as claimed. The fact that a McCarthy-style Speaker vote would delay certification of Trump’s election likely carried enough weight, especially since Trump worked the refs with the holdouts, and Johnson worked to secure the remaining votes he needed during the extended vote process. The budget bill wasn’t enough evidence to suggest that Trump’s hold on House Republicans is weakening. That requires a pattern of defiance among the caucus.
