This seems to be the only way get information to the people who will be most affected. I think it is a great idea since major media sold out a long time ago, We have to reach the most vulnerable among us so they can protect themselves with accurate knowledge

I think people have to be given the information where they can most easily access it, and it is on local media.---Jason

I haven't watched local news in years. I also don't watch cabel news either.

While I am no fan of either congressman, I actually think Don Bacon is an honorable man. He stands up to Trump and Kegseth. While I do not agree with many of his stands there are a lot worst republicans out there

Jim T's avatar

Bacon is retiring. Rs will have trouble holding that seat.

The Big Beautiful Bill needs to be called the Death by Benefits Destruction bill or the Billionaire Bonanza bill.

Focus on Republican Representatives up for reelection may cause them to vote against the bill or still vote party line.

Just a few no Republican votes on this bill will squash it.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

It is important that Republicans in vulnerable districts who pick Trump over their constituents pay a price for their decision.----Jason

Your name for the bill sparked this name: Death by 1,000 Pages of Cuts bill

I am disgusted by the Republicans who put their heartlessness on display. Glad to see the Dems using a page out of the Republican playbook vis-a-vis the ads targeting the Reps who support these hateful policies and people. There is a special place in hell for them.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

Just an FYI, this is a liberal outsde group doing these ads, not the Democratic Party.--Jason

Those are afraid to state their real feelings because they are afraid that trump Trash will hurt them if they go against him.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

Some of them are afraid. Some of them are just plain evil.

Excellent. Targeted, strategic and hopefully effective.

Money well spent, I hope. At least the libs are doing something right. I have no doubt that the MAGA party would do the same thing if the dems were trying to cut Medicare,

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

MAGA is a passive outfit that revolves around Trump, so unless Trump does it, they probably won't.---Jason

I love the statement that the bill is now due- messaging must be consistent in calling these politicians out for their votes. They must be held accountable for their repeated lies and misinformation!

Eric Perro's avatar

$10 million? In American politics, that lasts a week. Toy hammer.

Reality is that Republiscums will match that with one phone call.

Checkers VS chess.

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

I think you missed the part of the article where these ads are running in two congressional districts. One of which is northern Omaha, not an expensive media market. Several million dollars is a whole lot of cash in Omaha. I think you are under the false perception that Republicans raise more money than Democrats. They don't. ----Jason

Eric Perro's avatar

My comment is in no way a criticism of your piece, as I love the stuff you guys do.

And normally, I'd tend to agree that for a smaller market that normally would be a substantial sum.

But in these highly abnormal times, I can't see the current GOP/Project2025 apparatchik allowing any cracks or weaknesses anywhere in the country, as they know their illegal and treasonous acts will someday cost them dearly without control of the Oval Office and Congress to protect them.

PS... do you have a piece coming on the possibility of Trump simply cancelling or indefinitely postponing the Mid-Terms? I'd write one, but I lack the skills and knowledge you guys possess to do it justice.

Dana Ciolfi's avatar

They should be everywhere all the time

Sarah Jones & Jason Easley's avatar

That would be a waste of resources, because in many of these Republican districts, the ads would not make a bit of difference, but there are a few dozen that can be targeted.---Jason

TV Ads are great as are radio media - going on podcasts helps and posting all over social media. I like the idea of Billboards. I do not know what is more expensive. Both have their pros & cons. Billboards target the audience in the area or region of the billboard, where TV can target a larger audience and scale up if the audience needs to be expanded. TV ads are short lived as the next shiny thing comes up whereas Billboards reinforce the message repeatedly.

It is important that we start advertising against the "Rs" in Congress now and keep it up until after the mid-terms. We need to pound in the message until people are sure they know the truth and will vote in their own best interests.

And yesterday, trump's sons publicly announce they started a new business where they offering *phones with the option of buying telemedicine at low cost*. The hypocrisy and the astoundingly tone deafness and grift.

Carol's avatar

Great idea! Give the information to the folks who can vote the offenders out!

Susan Aldrich's avatar

We need many more of these ads in red and blue states. We need ads to combat Trump’s ads that are being seen on TV. The regular news media is definitely not reporting in our favor.

I am Canadian. I am angry at 77 million people in the south country who thought (or didn't do any thinking) and voted in Dickler. I am really angry at the threats to annex MY country. It's not just the tariffs folks. Number one really making us angry are the 51st state cracks. That being said, I am p*ssed off that a country that is as rich as it is, and your population does not have universal healthcare. Get over the propaganda of socialism being evil and educate yourselves. My husband (American granted amnesty by President Jimmy Carter - you can figure out why he moved in 1970 - and he had five LEGAL deferments) and I are low income seniors. We both have health problems. Today I went into our pharmacy and was given a brand new glucose meter free. We qualify for the full seniors drug benefit due to our income, that is verified by tax returns, and a Rx from our doctor. That's it. One of my drugs costs $1,200/month - no charge. Biggest bill I had from a major hospital surgery - $200 leg brace, paid for by work insurance when hubby was working. So why did people vote to have what little effen healthcare they have taken away? Forget asking if you are better off than you were four years ago. Ask yourselves are you better off than you were four months ago? four weeks ago? Everyone deserves healthcare. It should be a right, not a source of profit for investors or insurance companies. Elbows UP!!

Yes 50 % of Americans believe Fox News Propaganda, are racist, ignorant and easily lead by Don the Con! Thanks for knowing and caring as we love Canada and our American Allies of the People of USA!

Paul Franzmann's avatar

Love it! Wish you had $5 million each for the other 212 who sold us out.

Sacha Millstone's avatar

I think both ads are very effective and will likely make a difference in this fight by heightening awareness of the impact to healthcare for lower income people if this horrible bill passes both Houses. I think the first ad is more effective because it connects more personally with the viewer than the 2nd ad.

Paula's avatar

I agree with your analysis of the two ads. I am not an expert, but I believe that people connect more with a person they can see than with a voiceover. That the woman in the first ad self-identifies as a “lifelong R” probably carries more weight with right-leaning Independents and more moderate (are there any?) R’s.
