It doesn’t matter what happens to the bill. These Republicans have to be voted out of office forever after kissing the ass of the most destructive demented abomination of a president. Only way they can be saved is if they take their responsibility, seriously and impeach the son of a bitch and his entire regime.

Agree. But a large portion of them still need to be voted out. They have shown the people they cannot lead, they cannot govern and they don’t give 2 shots about the people.

Yup! We can take out the trash in the midterms and do all we can to stall any work on that bill. I don't want these losers getting their greedy fingers into my SSI or anyone else's benefits!

There's an old saying that fits here and for good reason. "Don't put all your eggs in one basket." This BBB has got to fail, because otherwise, it's too long to read and fully comprehend what the hell is in it.

So they won't read it and will vote anyway?

(what's been offered as an excuse by various House members... like they don't have staff? - yes, reading is HARRRRRD.... )

My fear is that they'll vote for it anyway to appease Dear Leader

The saying fits here, Marsha - but I do think they're happy with the eggs overall and feel that their positions and privilege will protect them - so "why not vote for the bill?"

Maddening. Insane.

And here we are

Remember how tenacious old Mitch McConnel was in keeping the Senate completely under his control when he was Senate leader? I do. And he's now surfacing just as tenacious AGAINST Dump's BBB. This bird ain't going to fly. Keep your chin up.

Oh, I have no intentions of saying anything nice about Mitch. But I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. If he can disrupt his own party from passing a disasterous bill, I say "go for it."

My chin's been up and my eyes open on all of this for a long time - met the orange one in the '80's (ick, ugh, eeewww) when he was dining w the mob at a friend's restaurant.

McConnell has been a self-serving creep forever so whatever he does and says these days shouldn't be trusted, in my experience and opinion.

And Rand Paul is making noises... uh-huh. How will they all vote?

We have 2 D Senators here whose votes against the bill can't be counted on

(we wouldn't take the bet that they'd voted against it)

Expand full comment
CatChex's avatar

Marsha: separate question - do you think that McConnell wields as much influence and power as he used to wield?

We (our house, friends we discuss politics with) view him as a background fixture, he's hanging in there but concerns about his physical/medical frailty and possible cognitive issues beg questions as to whether whatever-he-does is of his own volition... or is he just a pawn, trucked out say a few words to support the regime? (we suspect it's a combination of the first and second). He's useful while he's still upright and can speak into a microphone. Cold? Yes. But this is who the regime is - and McConnell is complicit.

Oh, and the "Newt" has reappeared to say... things.

I think that it’s sad that it has come to this. Legislators who feel no obligation to their constituents, but to rich donors. All of them need to be voted out, including ineffective democrats who are quite frankly too old to care about what’s best for their constituents and forgotten how to fight. We are in perilous times, the office of the president has been diminished by a felon and his sycophants, laws being broken at will. Pitiful.

I have reached the point where I do not trust any polls nor do I trust words that come out of Republicans' mouths -individually and collectively.

Talk is cheap.

What do they actually DO?

So far - they continue to disappoint (which is probably the understatement of 2025) - as do many of our identified Democrats in the House and Senate. Too many examples to list here.

"Looks like a political death sentence"

Great - until it's dead - it's not dead.

I am glad many, if not not most, voters are against the Beautiful Big Boondoggle bill. However,

I am not hopeful that will "do the trick," because Repubs will come into line in the end, even though Dems will be in strong opposition. I am somewhat hopeful that quite a few Repubs could lose their seats in 2026, but not if Elon Musk, who is back in the fold, decides to bankroll them.

Tune in later...

I hope the BBBill will fail. I think it will. Nevertheless, all the Republicans need to be voted out of office and never again given a position of any responsibility. Then we need to ALL be involved enough that our reps never again fall into a trap of a madman.

The speaker of the House is so pathetic. I beg the media to drop him. Don't cover him. Don't ask him a question. Don't take a picture. He is a lost soul - let him be. I wish they would drop all coverage of trump. He only talks nonsense. Without publicity they are crushed.

It will be awesome and the midterms will the the start of MAGA's downfall!

We can do it! We're going to save this democracy... and hopefully be a lot wiser as a nation as a result.

Once all the MAGAs are out of power, we can rebuild, reinstate a bunch a regulations, bring back the Fairness Doctrine. Reinstate Roe vs. Wade, make the John Lewis Voting Rights Act law and even draft a new Constitutional Amendment that keeps business and other special interests out of politics. no more "Citizens" United, no more Military/Prison Industrial Complex.

Also, the ERA!

This is American Revolution II we are fighting as well as Civil War II. A rebirth of ou nation into something better and freer for all and a final defeat of the Confederacy.

We can do it! This is a purging and cleansing of all the nasty stuff about the USA, it must come out in order to be washed away.

We can do it! We will save this nation from the Fascists! We must remain positive, protest peacefully and GET OUT THE VOTE IN EVERY SINGLE ELECTION, even the smallest, most local ones... becathey count too! Many a community is defined by stuff like local Police Chief, County Sheriff, Schoolboards, etc. those can make a big difference for good or bad.

Voting still works, the Democrats have been winning most elections this year, even in deep Red areas. Thus, voting still works.

Also a guide on how to keep protests peaceful...
