Grateful. The biggest thing is the tax cuts for billionaires. It will increase the deficit immensely. Drop that item as it not fiscally sound.

Kate Madison's avatar

Easier said than done. Senate Dems are unable to make the tax cuts drop unless there are at least 3 Repubs who join them. Given the GOP intimidation tactics: primarying "disloyal" people and threatening unspecified harm to family members, plus other tactics i.e., swatting, doxxing, stalking. Since the Democratic MN lawmakers were killed and injured by a right wing crazoid, I think the level of fear has risen in both House and Senate Republicans about possible repercussions to them of "disloyalty" to Dear Leader.

You are so right, but it would be nice if the Senate could tinker with it so much that it would lose support in the House, making them start all over again.

Kate Madison's avatar

I agree. I think it is fear for some and lack of a moral compass for others.

We The People need a TAX THE RICH DAY rally! One Billion Dollars would last an average American couple about 8,000 years, so why the hell do these f'ing billionaire bastards need more? The People need to put back the tax rates of the 1950's; 90% over $2 million earned.

He did it in his first Administration !! Hardly Anyone knows about it!! And, It Is Still in Effect!!! He gave the rich a 10 year helping for their taxes back then!!!!🤬🤬🤬

Great@ I appreciate the work of Democrats to stop the republican attack on our country as seen in this gross bill. Thank you, Democrats! Let's go!

I think it’s great! I hope they get the word out over and over again. I just read the low literacy and low financial stats on our country. The republicans weaponize ignorance by their ignorance and using the literal ignorance of their cult. Democracy requires education, better jobs, and higher wages. Republicans cut and deny all.

They also need to REMOVE THE PROVISION FORCING JUDGES TO ASSIGN LARGE BONDS IN CASES THEY RULE AGAINST TRUMP! This can’t apply to the rules for a reconciliation bill. 🤬

Bluesmurf's avatar

I hope they are fighting hard on this one because it does not belong in a budget bill. It has absolutely nothing to do with the budget.

Rebecca Poage's avatar

Hooray for Senate Democrats! Thank you for fighting for us consumers & for taxpayers of all levels of income!

The CFPB was key to saving my house during the Great Recession. Bank of America was illegally trying to foreclose on it, refusing to refinance my loan although I clearly qualified. With less than two weeks before the house was to be auctioned off, an appeal to the CFPB priduced a letter to BOA, with which they had to comply. I am forever in the CFPB's debt.

Punkette's avatar

Wow! Thanks for sharing this, Janis. 💙 Many Americans have no idea what the CFPB does and how it protects consumers. I am so grateful Dems saved it.

Good job, Senate Democrats!

I hope to see more and more of the reconciliation travesty of policies and cuts taken out of the bill.

Martha Kenne's avatar

Like the cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Senator Byrd had his faults, but thank goodness for him on this provision! And yes, he did carry a small copy of the Constitution in his pocket.

Diana's avatar

Now I'm wondering how many provisions the Republicans have snuck into this travesty of a Bill that have absolutely nothing to do with the budget.

Diana's avatar

I think I felt much better when I was totally ignorant!

Wow wow wow. This is scary stuff! Thanks for sharing

Thanks for this. Good to read that states are stepping up to enact laws against AI manipulation. An important safeguard for elections.

It would have been good if all the republicans in the House who voted for it but NEVER READ IT would have read it before voting for it. How many have admitted to voting for it without reading it and then complained that they didn’t know this or that was in it that they don’t like. They voted for it just because Trump told them to and now they have to face their constituents and explain why. They won’t explain it though as they have also been told by Trump not to hold town halls because he knows that it is terrible for “We The People”.

Susan Gessford's avatar

There was a bill to help solve the immigration problems too, that Trump canned..remember? Bipartisan, sane and would have hired the judges needed to make the sytem work. But no, the GOP WANTS to act like Nazis with anyone not American enough for them. It's turned America into 3rd world in five months.

Jim Sullivan's avatar

Trump’s and his regime are beginning to look more and more like a combination of Hitler’s Nazis and The Taliban. Trump wants total control over everyone and everything. His mental acuity is going down the tubes, he looks and sounds like he has no idea where or what he’s doing. Is the time going to come where the military will have to step in and take him out of office to save America!

Way to go Democrats! Keep it up!

Hooray for Democrats!!!!!!

The CFPB is important, however it is estimated that banks rob Americans of $250 billion a year, so what would be better is if the banks were actually REGULATED. In addition, the Parliamentarian servees at the behest of the president, so Trump can just fire them (as he did last presidency). But it is a positive if the CFPB can be preserved.

Hooray for the Democrats They are feeling the wind from our protests starting to fill the sails and it encourages them to get tougher.
