Let them shut it down. See how fast the repubs freak out. Hold the line!

First, it seems to me that the history of government shutdowns shows that the American 🇺🇸 public by-and-large has seen them as a collective failure of their elected representatives. Second, it’s my opinion that the current Democratic Party (DP) leaders in Congress have been derelict in finding a compelling common message and communicating it, and their membership clearly depicts this grievous failure. Third, I don’t see Trump and his MAGA enablers caring about the effects of a shutdown on those who will be most harmed ~ dedicated, career public servants and those most in need of their services.

In my opinion the government has been shut down for some time. Why fund these politicians and ideologues?

I think we have to shut down. Dems are accused of taking a knife to a gun fight. Now, we need a gun.

If we can survive four years of Trump, we can survive a shutdown.

I'm not sure if a shutdown of the present administration would be a BAD thing.

If the Rethuglicans in DC don't want a govt. shutdown, they need to grow spines and start to represent their constituents for a damn change! VOTE BLUE NO MATTER WHO!

Schumer has it right. The American people can survive a shutdown even if it's month, BUT they cannot survive much more of Trump's outrageous social and economic blood letting.

Personally, if you are banking on those two to "save the day", you may be pissing into the wind.

IMHO.

I am glad Schumer has found a semblance of his spine. But he has a long way to go to convince us that he is up to the task of defending and hopefully restoring democracy.

I would have a lot more respect for him if he didn't dodge the Mamdani question multiple times. He (and all Democrats) should just be honest and admit that, yes there is hesitation to endorse a Democratic Socialist. He can say he is not ruling it out, but just wants to get a better understanding of Mamdani's goals, platform, the Gaza situation, etc. and get to know him better as a person, and potential mayor, before endorsing him.

He can state the knee-jerk reaction people have to the term "Socialism," but elaborate on the many Socialist programs we already enjoy as part of American life, blah, blah.

He should juxtaposition this with examples of the oligarchy unfolding before us now, list the destruction to the working class the GOP has steadily caused since Reagan and champion a Democratic party return to solidarity with the average American.

He should admit that the party abandoned the working class for the corporations and wealthier suburban Democrats, and that choice lead to the GOP scooping the working class up, aka hoodwinking them, but they never did a thing to actually help them.

Be honest and frank. Admit mistakes. Rebuild trust with the American people. I'd even go so far as a full rebrand, to include many of the policy initiatives Biden incorporated into his very progressive administration - many thanks to Bernie's influence, btw.

Young Democrats want change and are excited by Mamdani. They feel left behind and don't see a future better than their parents, which is a major shift from previous generations. They want their leaders to speak to them and present ideas that resonate with their unique world view and generational challenges. Not leaders that talk down to them, refuse to listen and pander with platitudes and tired catch phrases like, "WE WILL WIN." Sigh. Snooze. 🤦

If Schumer wants to retain any relevance as a politician, he needs to get with where the energy is, and that is Mamdani, AOC, Bernie. I highly doubt Schumer's reputation will suffer from endorsing Mamdani, not with the party's approval rating in the low 20's, endorsing Mamdani would more than likely help, over hurt it.

As Bernie has shown us for over a decade now, people want REAL CHANGE and Democratic elites have refused to give it to us for 3 election cycles, in favor of establishment candidates. They better learn from 2024, because if they do not embrace the energy of the youth vote and understand that a Progressive populist leader is THE FUTURE of the party, they can kiss the White House goodbye for a long time.

The future may not necessarily mean Mamdani, but he has shown us the way to captivation, in terms of messaging and accessibility.

Bernie's Fighting Oligarchy tour has also captivated Americans across Trump country, showing us that people, regardless of party, are hungry for a leader who understands them and their struggles, knows what they want and poses solutions that aren't cookie-cutter, consultant-approved rehashes we've heard for decades.

Progressive ideas are popular to a majority of Americans, and now is the time for the DNC and establishment fossils to get out of the way and embrace the future. This is especially vital when the GOP has embraced fascism, authoritarianism and white supremacy.

The next progressive era is coming, whether Schumer and the Boomer class like it or not, so they'd be smart to LISTEN and adapt. Otherwise, they will seal our fate under GOP white nationalist authoritarianism for a generation or more.

It is an easy calculus to me, but these people are so drunk on their power and lifestyles, that the thought of relinquishing any of it to the next generation is terrifying.

Tough. Deal with it and get to work supporting the future. Put country above party.

And if the Schumercrats can get over themselves and LISTEN to their constituents, we have a real shot at finally creating the nation we deserve and were promised. Anything short of that is a recipe for disaster.
