Hint Hint: Hillary Clinton Says Electing a Woman President Would Send The Right Signal

Hillary Clinton dropped a pretty big hint that she would vote for ‘the right woman’ as president, and suggested that electing a woman president would send the right historic signal.

Former Sec. of State Clinton said:

Let me say this, hypothetically speaking, I really do hope that we have a woman president in my lifetime. And whether it’s next time or the next time after that, it really depends on women stepping up and subjecting themselves to the political process, which is very difficult. One of my great predecessors Elinor Roosevelt said as far back as the 1920s, if women want to be in politics they have to grow skin like a rhinoceros. I think there’s still truth to that.

You have to step up. You have to dare to compete. You have to get into the process, and then the country, our country has to take that leap of faith. We did have a historic election with the election of President Obama, which was incredibly important for all the obvious reasons given our past. And I hope that you will see a woman elected because I think it would send exactly the right historic signal to girls, women as well as boys and men. And I will certainly vote for the right woman to be president.

I think Mrs. Clinton was understating it just a tad. The election of a woman president would do more than send the right historic signal. It would be the ultimate rebuke to the Republican efforts to take rights away from women. If what we have seen President Obama endure is any indication, the election of a woman president would set off a chain reaction of sexism that hasn’t been openly seen in this country in decades. (I am not suggesting that sexism has ceased to exist, but that much like racism, it has gone underground.)

Clinton was being honest when she said it had to be the right woman. The Michele Bachmanns and Sarah Palins of the political world need not apply, because they reinforce and cater to sexist stereotypes, while undoing the progress that women have spent decades fighting for.

It is ironic that as our nation shatters stereotypes and barriers on issues like same sex marriage, the color and gender lines are just beginning to crumble for presidency.

Mrs. Clinton was correct. It will take the right woman to be our first female president. For starters it will take an individual who is respected and has qualifications that are not just as good as men, but better than men.

Hillary Clinton is the right woman to serve as our first female president. It isn’t just about history and gender. No one is better qualified, and equipped to hit the ground running as president than Clinton. The presidency would also serve as a fitting climax to a career that will go down in the history books as one of the greatest ever.

President Obama is one of the great political talents and leaders of our time, and thanks to working with Obama, Clinton now possesses a resume for the ages. She is the perfect woman for the job, and I suspect that she will make history in 2016.
