Allen West And Other Right-Wing Pundits Looking To Profit From Impeachment Talk

In the wake of renewed outcries from conservative noisemakers regarding the impeachment of President Obama, some right-wing sleaze merchants have decided that now is the time to cash in on the craze. Allen West, the former one-term Congressman and current Fox News contributor, sent out an email to his website’s subscribers requesting that they contribute to his PAC, The Allen West Guardian Fund. In the email sent July 10th, he told his supporters that it was an “emergency,’ and since Sarah Palin got the ball rolling earlier in the week, he decided to open up a petition for a “limited time only.” The email can be read here, courtesy of Media Matters.

If you were to ask West, he’d say that he was merely only looking to show the Republican Party how many people were in favor of impeachment. He’s only doing the people’s work. But the transparent reality is that he is just making a cash grab. This isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last time. West has been yelling impeachment ever since he broke onto the political scene back in 2010, when he was elected to the House. After losing in 2012, West has done everything possible to cash in on his brief flirtation with relevance. In the end, he is nothing but a two-bit hustler running scam after scam.

Per Ben Dimiero at Media Matters, West isn’t even the only one trying to cash in on the impeachment craze. The guys over at WorldNetDaily are using impeachment talk to not only fund-raise for their SuperPAC, but to also sell merchandise. Below is an excerpt from Dimiero’s article:

West isn’t the only one emailing fundraising appeals about impeachment. On June 20, Takeover Super PAC — the nascent political group backed by WND founder Joseph Farah, leading birther and WND reporter Jerome Corsi, and notorious smear merchant Floyd Brown — rented WND’s email list to send out a message with the subject line, “Impeach Him!” Pointing to the group’s campaign activities in various states, Takeover Executive Director Tom Freiling argues, “When we gain an absolute majority in the House and Senate, we conservatives can finally expose Obama law-breaker [sic].” Arguing that it was “urgent,” Freiling asked for donations of “$25, $50, $100, or more.”

In addition to promoting Takeover, WND also has an entire “Impeachment Store” on its website, featuring items like magnetic “Honk for Impeachment” bumper stickers, a $9.95 “Special Report” on “Why Barack Hussein Obama Should Be Impeached To Save America,” and a card game called “Scandal,” which is “a contest between players to create the best cases for impeachment by collecting and displaying valuable evidence (Case) cards… This game is fun to play and historically accurate.”

The WND “Impeachment Store” also features Impeachable Offenses: The Case For Removing Barack Obama From Office, a 2013 book co-written by WND reporter Aaron Klein and published by WND. (Last month, National Review writer Andrew McCarthy also released a book flogging impeachment.)

Conservatives see this as nothing more than a way to grift and leech off of their ignorant supporters. Guys like Joseph Farah and Allen West are only looking to fill their pockets in the name of ‘freedom’ and the Constitution. More or less, they are televangelists, banking on the unsuspecting masses not catching their hustle. And speaking of grifting and leeching, Sarah Palin, who helped get the ball rolling on the money train this week, made sure to continue belching out her opinions on Obama on Friday by posting an op-ed to FoxNews.com.

Much like the word-salad she wrote earlier this week for Breitbart, Palin really didn’t provide a legitimate case for impeachment. However, at least this time, she actually listed things she didn’t like from the President, rather than just referring to the vague notion of lawlessness. (My guess is she saw the amount of ridicule the Breitbart piece got and thought she better expand on it.) Regardless, even if the FoxNews.com op-ed was longer and more detailed, it was still the ramblings of someone way out of her element.

However, it doesn’t matter. Why? Because the whole thing is about selling the Palin brand. The more she gets her name out there, the more she can hope for donations to her own PAC, SarahPAC. Same goes for all of these other so-called conservative pundits. It is all just a way to profit off of the emotions they instill in their audience. Get them enraged about the Kenyan usurper in the White House…and then ask for a check. In the end, it is nothing more than a con. And the conservative base falls for it hook, line and sinker.
