Sanders campaign senior campaign adviser Tad Devine has told the AP that the Sanders campaign has no interest in challenging the caucus results in Iowa, which means that Hillary Clinton has officially won the Hawkeye State.
Stephen Ohlemacher of the AP tweeted:
The AP was holding back from officially declaring Clinton the winner earlier today because they were waiting to see if Sanders contested the results or for the results to be officially certified.
There is nothing to gain by Sanders going through the process of a contesting the results and forcing a recount. The real difference between winning and losing the caucuses is four delegates. The challenge isn’t worth the hassle for four delegates.
Sanders is set to win the New Hampshire primary, so there is very little to be gained by going through the recount. Hillary Clinton won Iowa on paper, but politically Bernie Sanders is the big winner coming out of Iowa He has proven that he can match Clinton in more than fundraising.
By contesting the three-tenths of a point difference in Iowa, Sanders would only distract from the momentum that his campaign is building. It was a smart decision to let the Iowa results stand. There are bigger fish to fry, as Bernie Sanders has proven that he has a legitimate shot at winning the Democratic nomination.
