Crackpot Creationist Says Stonehenge Built by Race of Satanic Giants

Creation “Science” has given the world nonsense piled on top of nonsense, from cave men and dinosaurs co-existing to Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood and resulting craziness, like an Ark filled with dinosaurs and a Grand Canyon carved by its waters.

It should hardly be a surprise then that they are now telling us that Stonehenge was built by Satan through a race of giants he created to destroy Israel. These are the Nephilim, and no, not the Nephilim of Blizzard’s Diablo games. And perhaps not even giants, based on etymology. But let’s not get in the way of creationist fantasies with facts.

At least not until we hear what this theory’s promoter, Dr. Dennis Lindsay, a well-known figure in Evangelical circles for many years, has to say.

So Satan needed a base of his own and “his own family,” says Lindsay, as a counter to Israel. So Lindsay says he “weaved through” the evidence, and oh boy did he do some weaving! Forget aliens. Forget Chariots of the Gods. It turns out that Stonehenge is just one of thousands of prehistoric sights around the world built by giants.

And Stonehenge makes all the sense in the world, right? You know, because the Salisbury Plain is so close to Israel…oh wait…

Lindsay appeared on Jim Bakker’s show Wednesday to enlighten us all. Watch courtesy of Right Wing Watch:

“He build his little squatter’s hut up there on the Temple Mount, you know that temple, because he knows what the Bible says about that place. I weaved through why and what is the evidence for giant beings on this earth. We all know about Stonehenge, right? That’s just one of hundreds and hundreds of gigantic places around the world that testify that some sort of supernatural power or giants were involved in its construction.”

You can’t dismiss the giant thing out of hand because Lindsay isn’t the first to mention giants in conjunction with huge structures not easily explained. And there is another stone circle, about the same age as Stonehenge in the Middle East and like Stonehenge, apparently a ritual center.

It is in the Golan Heights and called Gilgal Refaim in Hebrew. That means “Wheel of Giants.” Because Bible and a biblical race of giants. There are all sorts of theories about the Wheel of Giants just as there are about Stonehenge and new survey methods constantly update our thinking about these ancient structures.

The ancient Greeks called the Bronze Age Walls of Mycenae and other locations “Cyclopean” walls because they thought these too had been built by giants, because only a cyclops could move those huge stones around – like the huge stones at Stonehenge. Never mind that the Wheel of Giants is made up of a bunch of really small stones.

So there are antecedents to this sort of thinking.

However, it is now the 21st century and we know better. Or rather, we should. And Lindsay’s theory is a giant step backward, a sort of slap in all our faces.

No doubt millions of innocent school children will soon be exposed to this thinking, if it can be called that, as part of the Evangelical push to drag the United States back to the Bronze Ages from which these structures arose.
