With less than four weeks to go until Election Day, Hillary Clinton is tied with Trump in Utah, as Independent candidate Evan McMullin is surging in the state.
According to a poll done for the Desert News:
The poll shows Clinton and Trump tied at 26 percent, McMullin with 22 percent and Libertarian Gary Johnson getting 14 percent if the election were held today. Y2 Analytics surveyed 500 likely Utah voters over landlines and cellphones Oct. 10-11 The poll has a plus or minus 4.4 percent margin of error.
Also, a majority of voters statewide and specifically Mormons, as well as a near majority of Republicans, say Trump should drop out of the race, according to the poll.
The state’s heavily Mormon Republican constituency already had major problems with Trump as the Republican, but it was the lewd audiotape that pushed Utah Republicans to revolt against Trump.
Utah has turned into a three-way contest. Hillary Clinton could win the state, but Evan McMullin is the candidate that could win.
Whether McMullin wins or Clinton wins, Utah’s electoral votes are looking increasingly like they will not be in the Republican column. If Trump can’t win Utah, given the current state of the electoral map, he can’t win the election.
Utah only has six electoral votes, but with Trump trailing badly in the swing states, any defection from the Republican base will be fatal to Trump’s hopes of winning.
Republican voters in Utah have taken a moral stand that could stop Republicans efforts to make Donald Trump the next President Of The United States.
