To See President Biden's 5 Best Jokes At The White House Correspondents Dinner visit The Daily.
President-elect Trump isn’t doing a proper vetting of his nominees for financial and conflict of interest issues. It is being reported that Trump is handing out jobs in his administration based on “gut instinct and chemistry.” The consequences of Trump’s refusal to properly vet his cabinet could do immense damage to the American people.
The Wall Street Journal (subscription required) reported, “In many cases, Mr. Trump has announced his prospective nominees without requiring a review of extensive paperwork about their background and financial records, including tax returns, people familiar with the process said….People involved in the process said Mr. Trump is running an unorthodox transition process—much like his campaign. He is making some decisions based on gut instinct and his chemistry with people, and at times has revealed the name of a nominee before his transition team was ready for the announcement.”
Some nominees are getting their jobs, not because they are qualified for their positions, but because Trump feels like he has chemistry with or likes them. The president-elect isn’t putting together a competent team to run the United States government. Trump is assembling a group of cronies who got their jobs based on how well they sucked up to the incoming president.
The consequences for this sort of staffing process are going to be felt by the American people. When George W. Bush put one of his pals in charge of FEMA instead of a qualified disaster management expert the consequences were deadly for the people of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrine. Now imagine an entire cabinet of “heck of a job Brownies” in charge of critical agencies, and the potential for disaster is obvious.
Donald Trump is building one of the most unqualified cabinets in presidential administrative history. It is a cabinet of the special interests, by the special interests, for the special interests.
Trump’s decision not to vet is an abuse of the public trust and a violation of his Executive Branch responsibilities. The people who will pay the price for Trump’s negligent staffing decisions are not in the White House, but in towns and cities all across America.
Donald Trump is putting together a cabinet that is designed to fail the citizens of the United States of America.
