JOHN DICKERSON: You said in an interview with Reuters that you thought it would be easier. Why?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Well, it’s a tough job. But I’ve had a lot of tough jobs. I’ve had things that were tougher, although I’ll let you know that better at the end of eight years. Perhaps eight years. Hopefully, eight years. But I’ll let you know later on. I think we’ve done very well with foreign policy. I think we’ve done very, very well with relationships with other leaders.
Six days ago, Trump was talking about a human mission to Mars during his second term, now he’s not so sure that there will be a second term. The White House does its best to hide reality from this president, but the truth is unavoidable.
Trump’s unpopularity is at historic levels that have never been seen this early in a presidency. It is possible that he could turn it around, but Trump is a deeply polarizing figure in a very polarized country. The odds are decent that he never gains the support of a majority of the country.
The Resistance is wearing Trump down; even he can feel the pressure that is building up from his failures.
The first one hundred days have come and gone, and Trump has accomplished nothing. Time is ticking, and even Trump vaguely understands that things aren’t going well.
