The Trump White House is so worried about Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) running for president in 2020 that they are monitoring Warren’s criticisms of Trump and treating her like an opposition candidate.
The Hill reported, “The White House is keeping tabs on Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), viewing her as a potential challenger to President Trump in the 2020 election….’As somebody who is probably, in the hearts and minds of liberal activists, a leader of the party, that voice carries some weight, and we have to respond,’ said one White House official who requested anonymity to describe internal thinking. ‘We don’t think ignoring her is the right approach.'”
The Trump White House is keeping an eye on Warren because they understand that their weakness is a populist candidate who can expose Trump as a fraud to the middle class and white working class voter who supported him in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Trump isn’t going to be able to run for reelection in 2020 as the non-politician outsider who will change Washington. Trump is the establishment, and if his establishment Washington has also failed at governing that is a double whammy against his campaign right out of the gate.
Trump can’t govern. He is a president who is stuck in campaign mode. This White House seems only capable of functioning when they are campaigning, which is why they have thrust Elizabeth Warren into the role of opponent.

Whether or not Warren will run, and if she is the candidate that the Democratic Party needs is debatable. The Democrats are getting younger by the day, and their greatest presidential campaign successes over the last few decades have been young fresh to the national scene candidates. The Trump White House knows where they are vulnerable, and they should be terrified, but it remains to be seen if the populist they fear will be Sen. Warren or some fresh face that has yet to emerge.
