Alabama Republican Defends Roy Moore from the Accusation of Child Rape with Bible

The party of family values has a message for you, which – to be fair – you have probably already received, given their support of sexual predator Donald Trump.

Just in case you missed that Republicans are the party of Excusing Assault Against Women, Alabama Republican State Auditor and alleged Christian Jim Zeigler used the Bible to defend Republican Judge Roy Moore from accusations of child rape, claiming that Joseph was an adult, while Mary, Jesus’ mother, was a teenager.

Saying the accusations that the Republican Judge who is the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl is “much ado about nothing,”
Zielger told the Washington Examiner, “There is nothing to see here. The allegations are that a man in his early 30s dated teenage girls. Even the Washington Post report says that he never had sexual intercourse with any of the girls and never attempted sexual intercourse.”

Well. No. Just no.

Not only do we have these pesky things called “laws” that a Judge and Senator would need to be aware of, given that both jobs are centered on writing, upholding and enforcing the laws of our country – not to be confused with the Bible, which has nothing to do with the laws of our country and yes, the founders intended it that way (see the abuse of so called divine authority if anyone is confused as to why), but this story happened a long time ago, in another land.

What in heck does the story of Joseph with Mary have to do with the laws of the United States?

The real problem here, Ziegler contended, is the mainstream media. Alabama voters will not care that Moore is alleged to have violated the law and sexually assaulted a young girl. They will see this as the media attacking a good man.

“Asked whether or not the report would upend Moore’s campaign, Ziegler predicted that Alabama voters would be angrier at the Washington Post for ‘desperately trying to get something negative’ than Moore for his dalliances with teenage girls decades ago.”

Then Ziegler used the Bible, citing Zachariah and Elizabeth and then Joseph and Mary.

“There’s just nothing immoral or illegal here,” Ziegler determined. “Maybe just a little bit unusual.”

Again, there is something illegal here – it was and is illegal. Alabama’s age of consent was 16, as Law Newz noted.

Ziegler might be shocking some people, but then they haven’t been paying attention. This is a Republican Party that justified Donald Trump’s multiple assaults on women, that he admitted to on tape.

The fact that Moore is accused of assaulting young girls will make him MORE likeable to Republican voters. Not less.

The Republicans taking a stand against Moore did not ever want Moore in the Senate. So it’s hard to take those comments as indicative of some wider value of women. These same men are pushing Donald Trump’s tax plan through as they denounce Moore.

Moore is accused by this 14-year-old girl if, among many other things, guiding her young hand to his underwear.

Republicans can find any excuse to justify assault of women and girls. They called Trump’s assaults “locker room talk” and now, the Bible said it was okay.

The only question remaining is what the voters think of Republicans. Sure, Republican voters are cool with assault. It is, in fact, part of the resume at this point. It is a plus, not a negative. Much like beating up a POC or immigrant.

The party of family values has become the party defending the alleged sexual assault of a young girl. Not only is it not an issue, reporting on this assault will make the Republican voters like Moore even more.

It is not a negative for Republican voters that Roy Moore allegedly sexually assaulted a teenager, just like it wasn’t a negative that Donald Trump bragged about sexually assaulting women. It’s called brutal, oppressive, intimidating hate, and it’s being deployed against everyone but rich, white men.
