Cowardly Republicans Won’t Touch Radioactive Russia Report Because It Will Set Trump Off

Republicans are afraid to touch a new report from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Democratic staff that showed Trump sitting on his hands while Russia attacks US elections.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee ranking member Sen. Ben Cardin said, “While President Trump stands practically idle, Mr. Putin continues to refine his asymmetric arsenal and look for future opportunities to disrupt governance and erode support for the democratic and international institutions that the United States and Europe have built over the last 70 years.”

According to NBC, Republicans responded to the report by running away because they are afraid of setting Trump off.

NBC’s Kassie Hunt reported, “I think that for the most part, Republicans don’t necessarily want to touch this because it is so radioactive as regards the president of the United States, who is clearly hypersensitive to this. Any Republican that were to sign on to something like this is potentially putting themselves in the crosshairs and this clearly was an effort by one side, not the other.”

The report lays out Putin’s attacks on US democracy, and instead of standing up defend their country, Republicans are worried about triggering the president.

Everytime Republicans try to assure the country that Trump really isn’t as unstable as is reported, something like this happens to remind everyone that the reporting is likely understating the size of the problem.

The Republican Party would rather allow Putin’s destruction of US democracy than deal with a Trump outburst.
