Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) has a message for Donald Trump. It is time for the president to reemerge and do his job, or the Senate will end up with nothing resolved and looking at another government shutdown.

Markey said on MSNBC’s The Beat With Ari Melber, ” Well, I trust Chuck Schumer, and I trust Dick Durbin in a room to do their absolute best. I don’t trust the president. I don’t trust the Republicans, but I think that Chuck and Dick did what they had to do in order to get in the room, in order to try to see if there is any sincerity. I mean, thus far, the president has not done his job. Bill Belichick told the Patriots yesterday, do your job. The same thing is true for the president. Do your job, Mr. President. Try to find a way of resolving this issue. He’s gone incommunicado once again on an attempt to resolve these issues. We could easily consume all of the time that was just purchased by this shutdown without anything having been resolved once again.”
Republicans didn’t “win” anything with the shutdown. They bought themselves 17 days, which they will have to spend debating the immigration issue that drives a wedge through their party, so Markey’s right. If Trump continues to not do his job, the Senate could very easily end up back in the same position again.
The country is tired of the GOP’s governance by crisis. Trump needs to do his job. If he can’t do his job, he needs to resign because he shouldn’t be president.
