Mueller Reportedly Putting Off Filing Obstruction Of Justice Charges Until After Interviewing Trump

According to a Bloomberg report published Monday, Mueller might be temporarily putting aside his obstruction of justice investigation regarding President Trump’s attempts to stop the ongoing Russia probe in favor of looking into other pressing issues.

Sources told the news outlet that Mueller has nearly wrapped up the obstruction of justice case, but he’s wary of revealing his results before he speaks to other key witnesses in the president’s camp who may still have information about possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Russia.

For that reason, the special counsel is said to likely set the obstruction case aside in order to avoid making others who need to be interviewed less likely to talk, and possibly even to prevent Trump himself from taking action to shut the entire investigation down.

The two most important interviews left, perhaps, are with Trump and his eldest son, Trump Jr.

Mueller’s obstruction case against Trump reportedly mainly focuses on three actions he took:  firing former FBI director James Comey; claims that he considered firing Mueller in June of last year, and helping craft a deceptive statement regarding the purpose of the meeting Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner had a with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer in June 2016 when election season was still in full swing.

Mueller’s office declined to reveal when he plans on sitting down with Trump and Trump Jr. Trump’s lawyers have been attempting to negotiate an interview with the easiest format possible for months — currently, his legal team favors an “interview” in which half would consist of an in-person questioning and the other portion of written answers.
