The White House isn’t mad that Trump ignored his national security team. They are angry that someone leaked the fact that Trump ignored the warning not to congratulate Putin.

NBC’s Kristen Welker reported, “This highlights this discrepancy here at the white house. On the one hand several days ago they announced several days ago that they were enacting those sanctions against Russia for meddling in the US election. Really, the first action that they took to retaliate against Russia for those actions and yet critics say the president is being non-confrontational, as you pointed out, going against stern warnings of his national security team not to congratulate president Putin, not raising the issue of Russian meddling. Senator John McCain had some very stern words about this saying an American president does not lead the free world by congratulating dictators on winning sham elections. Senator Marco Rubio earlier today had some very strong words as well about this, but he said what bothers him more are the leaks. The fact that this was leaked out. We now this was roiling a number of people in the west wing. Our own Peter Alexander got this statement — if that statement is accurate that means someone around the president is leaking papers and a fireable offense and likely illegal.”
The White House isn’t angry or alarmed that Trump ignored warnings from his national security team. Their big problem is that someone within the White House informed the American people about the president’s behavior. That, in a nutshell, sums up why there is a Russia investigation. The problem goes beyond Trump not listening to his advisers. The issue is that the president won’t confront Russia. When faced with a choice between confrontation and cowering, Trump always bows down to Putin.
Trump’s behavior should be causing panic. Instead, this White House is firing anyone who tells the truth about the president.
