John Dowd bailed on Trump after the president added a Fox News conspiracy theorist to his legal team.
CNN reported:
Dowd called for an end to the Russia investigation, as Trump was attacking Special Counsel Robert Mueller, so it is impossible to believe that there was any unhappiness on Trump’s part with Dowd. It is more likely that the other lawyers on Trump’s legal team were not happy with Dowd because they have been trying to negotiate the conditions for Trump to be interviewed by Mueller. Dowd calling for an end to the investigation did not help their cause.
What really pushed it over the top was Trump’s decision to hire Joe DiGenova. At the same time as members of Trump’s legal team were being turned by top presidential attornies like Ted Olson, Trump was hiring a guy from Fox News who pushes the conspiracy that the Russia scandal is a plot to get Trump. Trump is taking on water with the Mueller investigation, and no lawyer wants to stick around and watch an out of control client not listen while self-destructing.
Everyone can try to put a happy mutual face on Dowd’s departure, but it is nothing but bad news for Trump.
