As has been speculated for days, Trump lawyer John Dowd has gotten tired of his impossible client and quit as Special Counsel Robert Mueller closes in.

The New York Times reported that Dowd resigned because Trump wasn’t listening to him, “Mr. Dowd, who took over the president’s legal team last summer, had considered leaving several times in recent months and ultimately concluded that Mr. Trump was increasingly ignoring his advice, one of the people said. Under Mr. Dowd’s leadership, Mr. Trump’s lawyers had advised him to cooperate with the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, who is investigating Russia’s election interference and possible ties to Trump associates as well as whether the president obstructed the inquiry.”
Dowd told CBS News, “I love the president and wish him well. I pray that Acting Attorney General Rosenstein will follow the brilliant and courageous example of the FBI Office of Professional Responsibility and Attorney General Jeff Sessions and bring an end to alleged Russia Collusion investigation manufactured by McCabe’s boss James Comey based upon a fraudulent and corrupt Dossier. Just end it on the merits in light of recent revelations.”
One presumes that Dowd’s advice that Trump ignored involved not attacking Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The reason why Trump can’t get a decent lawyer to represent him is that he doesn’t listen to his representation. The Trump presidency is a sinking ship that was driven straight into the iceberg by the president himself. Trump isn’t going to get a top impeachment lawyer.
Trump isn’t going to get “the best people.” He can’t keep the substandard lawyers that he had.
Dowd got out while the getting was good. As Trump fills his legal team with people that he has seen on Fox News, the end is coming, and anybody who doesn’t want to drown in the scandal is heading for the lifeboats.
