Former federal prosecutor Paul Butler reminded Donald Trump on Monday that he isn’t king and that he’ll ultimately be forced to honor a potential subpoena to testify from Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

In an interview on Hardball with Chris Matthews, Butler said that even though the Supreme Court is conservative leaning, they will not hesitate to remind the president that he is “not King Trump”

Matthews asked Butler, “Why does this lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, think that he can defy a subpoena?”
Butler responded:
So their argument is that the Paula Jones case was about a civil matter. This is a criminal matter. And the Nixon case was about evidence as opposed to testimony. At the end of the day, that will not persuade the Supreme Court. It may go all the way up there, which would take a long time you. … But at the end of the day, the supreme court is going to say, “You’re President Trump, not King Trump. No man is above the law.”
In a Sunday interview on ABC, Rudy Giuliani said that “we don’t have to” honor a subpoena to testify because Trump is “the President of the United States.”
Of course, when you hire Rudy Giuliani – a man who lost his sanity long ago – this is the kind of nonsensical interpretation of the law you’ll get.
This type of performance from the former New York mayor might satisfy Trump as he watches television from his bed, but the two men are in for a rude awakening if they think they can skirt the law.
As Paul Butler said on Monday, “No man is above the law.”
This president and his dumpster fire legal team might have a poor grasp of the law, but that doesn’t mean the Supreme Court does.
If Donald Trump tries to defy Robert Mueller, not only will the American people revolt but so will the courts.
