High School Student Murdered In Mexico Weeks After Being Deported By Trump

An Iowa high school student who would have graduated last month was killed in Mexico, just weeks after being deported under Donald Trump’s new immigration crackdown.

According to The Des Moines Register, Manuel Antonio Cano – brought into the United States when he was just three years old – was killed three weeks after being throw out of the country.

The Register added that “America was the only home he has known” and he was eligible for protection under President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Trump, of course, ended the program last year and put the responsibility on Congress to clean up his mess. They still have yet to come up with a solution to shield DREAMERS from eventual deportation.

The Register noted that Manuel’s DACA renewal, according to his mother, had not been processed on time, which led to his deportation. That, in turn, led to his death after he had his throat slit.

Trump’s immigration policies keep getting more inhumane

While Trump had said in the past that violent criminals would take priority in his immigration crackdown, this type of deportation – of a non-violent teenager brought here when he was just three years old – indicates otherwise.

And this instance isn’t an outlier either.

According to a Chicago Tribune report from earlier this year, “[T]he biggest jump in arrests has been of immigrants with no criminal convictions.”

Trump’s inhumane policies were taken to an even higher level last month when his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, announced that the administration would now separate migrant children from their parents if they cross the border illegally.

On Wednesday, a federal judge ruled that a lawsuit challenging this cruel practice was allowed to move forward, a sign that Trump’s despicable immigration policies might not pass legal muster.

Regardless of the legal ramifications, though, Donald Trump’s immigration policies have never passed the moral test.
