Sen John McCain Tries to Compel Donald Trump to be Loyal to the United States

Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Senator John McCain tried to compel fellow Republican Donald Trump to be loyal to the United States on Friday after the indictment of 12 Russian spies for hacking the 2016 election.

McCain (R-AZ) said in a statement that Mueller’s indictment confirmed Putin’s plot to attack the election, “Today’s indictment is a result of the hard work of America’s law enforcement and intelligence officials who dedicate their lives to bringing to justice those who wish to do us harm. These revelations add to a body of evidence confirming an extensive plot by Vladimir Putin’s government to attack the 2016 election, sow chaos and dissension among the American electorate, and undermine faith in our democracy.”

The Republican, who hails from a different breed of Republican than this president, blasted the administration and Congress for not taking action to protect this country, “And despite repeated warnings from our nation’s top intelligence and military leaders, the Kremlin’s efforts to weaken our institutions have continued unabated with insufficient action taken by the administration or Congress to strengthen our cyber defenses, safeguard our election systems, and deter further destabilizing activities.”

McCain then did his best to compel his party’s president to be loyal to this country.

“President Trump must be willing to confront Putin from a position of strength and demonstrate that there will be a serious price to pay for his ongoing aggression towards the United States and democracies around the world. If President Trump is not prepared to hold Putin accountable, the summit in Helsinki should not move forward.”

It is a sad day when a Senator battling brain cancer has to try to compel their own party’s president to put the United States on the I Really Do Care list.

I have not often agreed with John McCain on issues, but he has never once given anyone cause to think he didn’t love his country. Quite the opposite. This can’t be said of Donald Trump.
