Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) said:
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) called the whole process a sham and walked out:
Republicans have decided that they are going to ignore sexual assault and bulldoze Brett Kavanaugh on to the Supreme Court with a party-line vote, so they own the consequences. Brett Kavanaugh is their stain. Democrats are making it clear to the nation that Republicans are responsible for what they are witnessing.
Some of the senior Democrats stayed in the hearing because it is essential that the dissenting voices and the voices of sexual assault survivors be in the record of this hearing. If all Democrats had walked out, Republicans could have whitewashed the record. Some Democrats had to be at the hearing, but those Democrats who walked out did the right thing. The message has been sent.
The consequences of Brett Kavanaugh being on the Supreme Court will be owned by Republicans for decades to come.
