‘It’s Not Right’: GOP Gov. John Kasich Demolishes Trump For His Dangerous Politics Of Fear

Ohio’s GOP Gov. John Kasich tore into Donald Trump on Monday for “selling fear” ahead of next week’s midterm elections.

The Republican said he has been “flabbergasted” by the president’s behavior, particularly after a week of political and religious violence.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Kasich said, “Our president is trying to have an electoral gain by selling fear and division, and it’s not right.”

Kasich said:

In some ways I’m flabbergasted. I mean, it seems as though they want to try to win an election – or he wants to try to win an election – by just creating enemies and selling fear. And, look, I’ve said earlier today, I’ve been saying it for a week, it all has to stop. Both sides have to stop. But, frankly, he’s the president and, you know, we all grow up studying people like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and think about how they tried to bring our country together. And what I’m finding is, unfortunately — and I’m sad about this — our president is trying to have an electoral gain by selling fear and division. And it’s not right. And to call the press — you know, I didn’t really know this, that he said 3:00 in the morning, the press is the enemy of the people. Really? I mean, the press is there and I don’t know any president that wasn’t — that hasn’t been upset about the press and felt that they have unfairly treated them. I mean, it’s just part of it.

Trump is hoping fear and division will save Republicans

In recent weeks, Trump has tried to use fear and division to save his party from electoral defeat in November. Nowhere is that more evident than in his fear-mongering about a caravan approaching the southern border, even though the migrants are roughly 1,000 miles from the U.S. border.

This disgusting version of politics being deployed by Trump and Republicans ahead of the midterms elections doesn’t appear to be paying off. Not only is Trump’s approval rating sinking, but Democrats are expanding their lead on the generic ballot.

The American people are sick of the toxic style of politics being peddled by Trump ahead of the midterm elections. Not only is it further dividing America, but it’s having violent consequences.
