Every Republican candidate that Trump campaigned for in the last 14 days of the election lost support after Trump’s visit.
NBC’s Chuck Todd said, ” Scott ran a brilliant campaign for I would argue a year. Let’s say if it was one year to campaign, he ran a really brilliant campaign for 50-52 weeks. The last two weeks, he stayed away from the president. He distanced from the president. Tried to run above everything. President came twice and Scott had to be with him twice. Once ten days ago and once in Pensacola. The pattern of where the president visited in the last two weeks and the downturn in the statewide number for that Republican candidate was pretty consistent across the country. I’ve talked to Republican pollsters. Ted Cruz lost 4 points after the president visited. That’s why McSally and Heller didn’t want him to come on the last visit.”

Democrats around the country were happy when Trump came to campaign for their Republican opponents because what they were seeing was that the president energized Democrats. Todd’s reporting shows that Republicans would have been better off if Trump would have stayed away. Trump didn’t help Republican candidates. His disastrous racism fueled rallies hurt them. The rallies that Trump held were not focused on the candidates. They were venting sessions for the president.
Trump’s barnstorming tour might end up costing Republicans Senate seats because when the racism circus rolled into town, voters realized why they had to vote Democrat.
