Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) warned Trump and his installed attorney general that if they interfered with the Russia investigation, it would be discovered and he must either recuse himself or face Congress.
Video:
Rep. Schiff said on NBC’s Meet The Press, “I want to make this very clear, if he doesn’t recuse himself, if he has any involvement whatsoever in this Russia probe, we are going to find out whether he made commitments to the President about the probe, whether he is serving as a back channel to the President or his lawyers about the probe, whether he’s doing anything to interfere with the probe. Mr. Whitaker needs to understand that he will be called to answer and any role that he plays will be exposed to the public. We don’t want there to be any ambiguity about that.”

With Democrats taking over the House majority, the days of Trump being able to do whatever he wants with zero oversight are long gone. Adam Schiff was right. If the plan was for Trump to install Whitaker to either kill or rat on the investigation, it is not going to work out well for Trump.
There is a term for what the president is attempting to do by installing a loyalist attorney general to do his bidding. It’s called obstruction of justice, and it is an impeachable offense. The first order of business for the new Democratic House will be to protect people with preexisting conditions, but Trump oversight is going to dominate the work of this House.
Trump thinks that he has pulled a fast one, but he is setting up a constitutional crisis that will accelerate his demise.
