Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said that there is a very real possibility that Donald Trump could face jail time as soon as he leaves office.

Schiff said on CBS’s Face The Nation, “There’s a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office the Justice Department may indict him, that he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time. We have been discussing the issue of pardons that the president may offer to people or dangle in front of people. The bigger pardon question may come down the road as the next president has to determine whether to pardon Donald Trump… The idea that while people are out walking precincts and doing what they should do in campaigns, the rich and powerful seem to live by a different set of rules. So this was the argument for putting Michael Cohen in jail on these campaign violations. That argument I think was equally made with respect to Individual-1, the president of the United States.”

The Presidency Is The Only Thing Saving Trump From Prison

Adam Schiff doesn’t exaggerate. He is an understated former prosecutor who chooses his words very carefully, so when Rep. Schiff states that there is a real possibility that Trump could face jail time, it should send shudders through the White House.

Trump did more than commit crimes. He engaged in fraud and conspired against the American people to obtain the presidency through illegal means. The presidency is the only thing saving Trump from being in prison right now. Paul Manafort in prison. Michael Cohen will be heading there for a substantial time.

Everyone close to Trump is facing the possibility of indictment or prison, including members of his own family.

If Trump loses the 2020 election, he could be the first president to go from the White House to a prison cell.
