Trump dug his own political grave on Monday morning by claiming that he never worked for Russia as Democrats are preparing to get his tax returns.

Trump said:
I just don’t know anything about it. I read it this morning. It’s a lot of fake news. That was a very good meeting. It was actually a very successful meeting. And I have those meetings with everything. I just know nothing about it. It was a very, very successful meeting. We talked about Israel. We talked about the pipeline that Germany is paying Russia a lot of money. I don’t think it’s appropriate. We talked about that. We talked about many subjects.
I have those meetings one on one with all leaders including the president of China, including the prime minister of Japan, Abe, we have those meetings all the time. No big deal. I never worked for Russia. And you know that answer better than anybody. Not only did I never work for Russia, I think it’s a disgrace that you even asked that question because it is a whole big fat hoax. It’s just a hoax.

These words are going to come back to haunt Trump in about a month, as House Democrats are going to be getting and releasing the president’s tax returns to the public. The tax returns will show if Trump has taken any money from Russians for work. Trump spent years claiming that he never tried to do a deal in Russia for a Trump Tower when it turns out that he was trying to make a deal with the Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Trump could prove that he never worked for the Russians by releasing his tax returns and the notes from his meetings with Putin. The president won’t do this, but instead thinks that we should trust him as he blusters on about hoaxes and “fake news.”
The fake news routine has gotten old. Most Americans want the truth and facts, and Donald Trump refuses to deliver on both fronts.
