Rachel Maddow on Monday pointed to recent court developments as evidence that Donald Trump’s fight to conceal his financial documents is looking like a massive failure.

The MSNBC host pointed to one lawsuit in which Trump is suing his own accounting firm to prevent them from handing over his financial documents – another move by this president that screams “nothing to hide here!”
Despite Trump’s efforts, the judge in the case pushed back, saying the case will continue to quickly move forward.
“The delay strategy is not working out,” Maddow said. “The president’s lawyers are not able to slow this thing down.”

Maddow said:
So the delay strategy is not working out. In the Mazars case, again, where the president is suing his own accounting firm to stop that firm from complying with a subpoena that requires them to hand over his financial documents, his lawyers are trying to slow it down. The judge says no, it is full steam ahead. We’re going to have the hearing on the injunction question. We’re going to have the hearing on the merits. We’re going to have the judge ruling tomorrow. The president’s lawyers are not able to slow this thing down. See you in court tomorrow.
The more this president fights the release of his tax returns and other financial documents, the more obvious it is that he is hiding something.
After all, if Trump is half the successful businessman he spent decades bragging he was, you would think he would be thrilled about this information getting out. But as his administration continues to defy lawful requests to obtain these documents, it’s clear he is hardly thrilled.
Last week’s reporting in The New York Times that Trump lost over $1 billion over a ten-year period gives us one clue as to why this president is fighting so hard to keep this information secret.
Ultimately, Trump knows his financial background is defined by dubious tax schemes and failed business ventures. The last thing he wants is for the public to see those failures in black and white.
