Trump Tweets ‘Condolences’ To Virginia Beach Without Even Acknowledging A Shooting Took Place

After remaining silent since Friday after a deadly shooting in Virginia Beach left a dozen dead and at least four injured, Donald Trump finally sent his “condolences” in a Tweet on Saturday.

The only problem, of course, is that the president failed to even acknowledge the fact that a shooting took place.

In his tweet, Trump said, “Spoke to Virginia Governor [Ralph Northam] last night, and the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Virginia Beach this morning, to offer condolences to that great community.”

He added, “The Federal Government is there, and will be, for whatever they may need. God bless the families and all!”

No explicit mention of the victims. No acknowledgment of the gun violence that left 12 people dead. No commitment to changing America’s broken gun laws to make sure this type of tragedy doesn’t happen again.

Instead, as NBC News has reported this morning, Trump is at his golf course in Sterling, Virginia.

Nothing shuts Donald Trump up like a mass shooting

Donald Trump seems unwilling to shut his mouth on any and all subjects, from the Kentucky Derby to unsolicited theories about how airplanes have become too complicated to fly.

And, of course, anyone that’s been alive for the past two years knows that he frequently launches into seemingly random temper tantrums on a near-daily basis.

But nothing shuts Trump up more than a mass shooting.

Instead of tearing into longwinded rants about the incidents, he often either remains silent for long stretches of time or issues vague and emotionless condolences, like the one he tweeted out on Saturday. That’s especially true if the violent act is carried out by a white supremacist.

Just imagine if Donald Trump showed as much unfiltered anger about mass shootings as he frequently does about petty political issues.
