South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg had Thursday’s debate crowd cheering when he slammed Donald Trump and Republicans for touting their religion while caging children on the southern border.

“The Republican Party likes to cloak itself in the language of religion,” the mayor said. “To suggest that God would smile on the division of families at the hands of federal agents, that God would condone putting children in cages has lost all claim to ever use religious language again.”

Pete Buttigieg has shown skill in his ability to reclaim religious values for the Democratic Party without doing what Republicans have historically done: discriminate against those with different beliefs.
The Republican Party has long touted its so-called religious values, but as they continue to support this amoral president and turn the other way as this administration cages children in detention centers on the southern border, the days of the GOP claiming the mantle of faith are over.
