Politico reported:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Wednesday that Corey Lewandowski deserved to be held in contempt of Congress for his combative performance before the House Judiciary Committee, where the former Trump campaign manager repeatedly refused to answer questions about his testimony to special counsel Robert Mueller.
Pelosi told Democrats during a private meeting on Wednesday that Democrats should have held Lewandowski in contempt “then and there,” according to multiple sources in the room.
Democrats appear to have learned a valuable lesson for Lewandowski’s stalling, humiliating, lie-filled performance. The Judiciary Committee needs to leave the questioning of Trump criminals to the expert counsel, and they need to be prepared to hold these witnesses in immediate contempt. Democrats caught on to Lewandowski’s game and did shut him down, but every single Trump witness is going to behave in some version of the same way.
Pelosi was correct. Democrats need to be ready to shut down these antics right away. They can’t allow Trump’s henchmen to make a mockery of the investigation.
The next time a Trump witness tries this tactic, Democrats must be ready to find them in contempt.
