Trump is opposed to regulating AI and data centers because he and his family are invested in them, but the president’s opposition also means that Mike Johnson has to be opposed to them too.
Johnson rejected moratoriums and regulations for AI:
I think there may be a role for the DOJ if things go awry. But what we need before we get to that stage is transparency, and we need some oversight. And I think that's what's involved. Instead of, instead of just smothering this with red tape, which is always the government's reflex, and I think would be wrong and frankly dangerous to national security if we did it here we wanna continue the innovation. We wanna keep America's lead over China and all of our other competitors, but we wanna make sure that it's being done in a safe way. So a little oversight, a little transparency I think would go a long way here.
Speaker Johnson also claimed that the public opposition to AI and data centers is a Chinese psy-op.
