Democrats are ready for Trump to try anything and everything to avoid becoming a lame duck president if Democrats win all or part of Congress in the midterm election.
While the same fringe right-wing zanies have been calling for Trump to impose martial law to stop the midterm election, which is something they have been saying that Trump should do since 2018- even though it wouldn’t work because the president has no federal authority over elections- there is a much more realistic Trump threat that Democrats have been preparing for.

The threat has never been that Trump will stop the election, because he can’t. Trump, by his own actions, is admitting that he can’t stop the election from happening, which is why he has been trying to rig the outcome.
The real threat is that Trump is going to try to use the power of the presidency to shape the outcome of the election. The president has already tried to do this by ordering the USPS to write rules regarding mail-in ballots, which the Supreme Court blocked.
Trump, like all aspiring authoritarians, wants a pretense of democracy while secretly rigging the results in his favor.
Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) offered a more realistic possibility of election manipulation while speaking about defending democracy.
