It is true that Republican voters are increasingly ignoring Trump’s endorsements, and the support of the president is no longer a sure path to victory in Republican primaries.
Trump keeps promising that he is going to be very active in the month before the midterms. Many Republicans in the House and Senate view Trump’s increased campaigning as a threat rather than a promise of deliverance in a difficult election environment.
In more direct terms, Republicans increasingly want nothing to do with Donald Trump on the campaign trail, and some are telling the White House to keep the president away from them.
The issue is that Donald Trump’s ego prevents him from seeing that he is a liability. Trump has always used the Republican Party for his own purposes and placed himself ahead of what the party needs, which means that Republicans should expect their pleas for the president to stay away to fall on deaf ears.
