Killing Citizens United won't happen maybe ever, because even if Democrats can get the votes in the Senate, whatever they pass will have to survive the conservative Supreme Court majority which has been striking down campaign finance reform laws since the 1970s, so passing a bill and having it signed into law might not work.---Jason
Please, please read the full court's opinion in the Citizen United case. While it addresses corporate money spending, the case goes far beyond that. It is one of the strongest opinions on the defense of first amendment rights. It directly indicates that the freedom on speech is a right that belongs to citizens and non-citizens alike. The Citizens United case buttresses the lower courts' rulings that the Trump administration can not revoke a visa because the visa holder has engaged in speech unfavorable to the administration. Obliterating Citizen United is a cure much worse than the illness.
I imagine free speech can be guaranteed without attaching legalized bribery to it. Free speech is a basic tenet of democracy but bribery is it's worst enemy.
The only thing that would make me happier is for this “regime” to bite the dust and for us to get rid of this nightmare that Trump has dreamed up with his Christian Nationalist friends, who aren’t Christian and are really fascists who want to “deep six” the Constitution and take away our rights and end our democracy.
