Rick Scott Dares the DOJ To Stop His Illegal Florida Voter Purge

Last updated on February 7th, 2013 at 08:30 pm

Don't Miss Sarah Jones's Essay On Kristi Noem Titled Predatory Is The Point On The Daily.

Rick Scott is the personification of a child governor.

In the name of rigging the vote in favor of his party, Ricky decided to suppress voter registration.  It took a court ordered time out, for Ricky to recognize that HIS voter suppression law violates freedom of speech, as well as numerous protections of voter rights right in the Constitution.

It looks like Ricky is doing his time out when it comes to voter registration.  As AP reported on Wednesday, Rock the Vote partnered with the League of Women Voters are resuming their vote registration programs!

The local Election Supervisors issued a time out to Rick and Kurt.  If they don't listen, it may take another court order.

Somehow I get the feeling that Kurt Browning is Ricky’s bff because nothing says friendship like a joint love for rigging the vote in favor of Willard, by any means possible, be it suppressing the vote or throwing some Koch money Willard’s way.  See before Ricky gave Kurt a job, he headed an organization called Protect Your Vote.

Lee Fang  at  republicreport.org, learned that PYV has ties to the father of all right wing sugar daddies, the Koch brothers and others who only care about one thing: a plutocracy in which wise white men like them rule, while the rest of us just know our place. Whatever it takes to get the ultimate dessert, right?

…As Republic Report exclusively reported last month, the Center to Protect Patients’ Rights is part of a universe of front groups financed by David and Charles Koch, the petrochemical billionaires, as well as several other billionaires, as part of an election-influencing effort. New reports this week about the brothers’ strategy indicate that they will now use this constellation of front groups to finance $400 million of a $1 billion campaign in outside money to defeat President Obama and congressional Democrats. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Mitt Romney’s Super PAC, and several nonprofits controlled by Karl Rove, will furnish the other $600 million.

Let’s get real, Ricky.  You’re acting like a kid who doesn’t want to eat his vegetables (the constitution, federal voting rights laws.  You just want to get right to that dessert of purging potential Democratic voters from the rolls because it’s so yummy – and because the Koch brothers said it’s okay.  And if you succeed, you’ll get a share of the ultimate dessert – kicking the black man out of the White House.

As the DOJ explained to you, we have Federal voters laws so that participatory democracy will stay healthy instead of turning into a bloated and sickly plutocracy envisioned by your sugar daddies.

According to Politico, Ricky will not only continue to gorge on his dessert of voter purging, he has upped the anti with a game of “I’m rubber you’re glue.”

Yes, in the name of purging war heroes and other “non-citizens”, Ricky’s henchman claims that the Feds are violating Federal law.

As Politico  reports:

Florida’s Secretary of State, Ken Detzner’s basis for calling the Federal government glue is premised on 3 main arguments, one of which we have heard before.

Florida is ensuring the rights of citizens are protected by going after the non-existent threat of votes by ineligible persons, who by coincidence are within the demographics more likely to vote Democrat.

Well, except for the seriously flawed information on which Scott and Detzner are purging everyone from World War II vets to…

According to Detzner, the Dept. of Homeland Security denied him access to the SAVE data base.

The DHS is required to any state’s request to check citizenship or immigration status of any individual.

The Miami Herald describes the overall tone of Detzner’s letter.

In tone and substance, the letter all but dares the Justice Department to sue Florida for allegedly violating the 1965 Voting Rights Act and the 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), nicknamed “motor voter.”

So in other words, even if Detzner’s claims are true, that completely justifies continuing the purge with information that his department knows is riddled with errors.  By Detzner’s logic, there would be fewer errors if only he had access to the DHS’s database.

Of course, somehow local election supervisors can verify, ostensibly without access to those records, prior to inconveniencing, humiliating and insulting citizens. After seeing how flawed the purge list is, most county election supervisors have said no to Ricky’s game.  According to the Miami Herald:

The attempted purge has been put on hold in nearly all 67 counties after the DOJ demanded the effort cease. Also, the state-produced list of nearly 2,700 suspected noncitizen voters was generated with some outdated data, targeting (sic) hundreds of actual citizens who are lawful voters. So far, no one has been purged who has not admitted that he or she is a noncitizen.

Without the counties, the purge effort can’t go on because the 67 independently elected supervisors are in charge of voter rolls in each of their counties. The state is, in one sense, just the custodian of all those records.

I won’t go so far as to suggest that local officials more honest than Detzner and Scott, I’ll just say it appears that they are far more competent and respectful of the U.S. citizens Detzner and Scott are so anxious to purge.

Chances are Scott and Detzner, still craving dessert, hope  the DOJ will sue Florida, so that they cn add some whipped cream to their dessert.  Sounds like the only way these two will follow the rules is when a court orders a time out – without dessert.
